Great job!

We are off to a great start with the voki! I hope that you are enjoying it. I've had a great time looking at everyone's avatar and hearing their introduction. Perhaps you didn't even think about this while you were creating your introductions, but typing into the voki is just one more great way to practice your writing!

We have so many people with great talent in this class. For example, we have a singer, an accomplished badminton player, and several people who speak two languages!

I can see that there is a lot of personality in this class, which is awesome! This will definitely help you find your "voice" as a writer. My hope is that by the end of the semester you will say, "I took English 43 because I have a bright future ahead of me, and I know I will be successful in whatever I put my mind to." :)

  1. For all the students who felt they scored low on their assessment test, don’t even sweat it! Most of the times, the assessments test can be confusing and aren’t really the best and most accurate test for your determining English skills. The rules of English change year to year and, those tests are not modified to match the new rules. The next thing to remember, don’t assume because somebody is a doctor or a Lawyer, they know how to write, that is not always the case.
English skills take practice, just like anything else, and we forget what we have learned over a course of time. Just because you finish school doesn’t mean you should stop learning either.
Don’t sweat the assessment test! After this class, your skills will be improved and next semester you thank yourself for taking a refresher course, before going to the next English level, and will have a leg-up on the other students in a other classes, because you took the time to review your English skills. Hang in there!

  2. April,

I agree with you 100%. You said it perfectly!

Definitely don't sweat the assessment. A standardized test is just that -- a standardized test. It doesn't measure your commitment, your drive, or your willingness to learn.

As you said, taking English 43 is a great opportunity to review, improve, and bolster your skills. You will be super ready for English 49, English 101, for writing in your chosen career, and for writing in any other avenue that comes your way. Fantastic comment! Thank you!

  4. That's a great point, Gary! Going back and listening to what you wrote can be really helpful. It will help you make sure that you really said what you meant to say. And, the voki will read it exactly as you write it -- so if you hear a mistake, you can go back and fix it before you upload it. :)
