Cell phones have several useful purposes. First, cell phones are useful for social networking. For example, I log in to Facebook every day. I like to review peoples’ statuses and check to see if I have any invitations for events. This helps me keep in touch with my friends. In addition, a cell phone can be used as a research tool. I have a Google application on my phone, and I can look up any information that I need. I also have a dictionary application that I can use at any point in time. This helps me find information when I am out of the house, and it helps me do better in school. Lastly, the GPS on a cell phone can be useful. If I am lost, I can use it to figure out what street I am on, or if I am looking for a place that I have never been, I can find directions. Last week, I wanted to go to the Boiling Crab. I could not find it, so I used my phone to look up directions. In conclusion, cell phones are very practical devices which can often help to make a person’s life easier and more convenient.

How long should our paragraphs be?

ReplyDeleteGood question, Gary! As we discussed in class, a good length for a paragraph is about 9-15 sentences. It could be a couple of sentences longer than this, but you shouldn't go shorter than 9. If it is too short, you can't adequately develop your ideas. If it is too long, it may be disorganized or confusing. I hope that helps!

As a follow-up to this, some people might find the guideline of 200 words to be a better mark. Think of it this way: it can be roughly 9-15 sentences or about 200 words. These are just rough guidelines, though. Most importantly, it should fully answer the prompt and give enough detail to be convincing.
