Give a Shout Out!

Here's an opportunity to send a compliment to another student in the class.  Tell them how much you have enjoyed working with them, how well they are doing, what you appreciate about them, what makes them a good student, etc.

Let's get the positive energy flowing!

  1. To All My Fellow Students- You’re just awesome! I have enjoyed getting to know some of you while we’re sitting in our groups. The class is filled with young talented and very intelligent students, with some very creative stories. I hope some of you continue on the path of writing. Our world needs creative thinkers like you. April C.

  4. I was trying to find a place to put my story, but I couldn't find the best place, so I placing it here.

My act of human kindness today!
I was in Albertson picking some items today. As I was standing in line, as an elderly women with a walker approached the counter. The woman asked the cashier, if someone could go across the street and get her a hamburger at McDonald’s. She explained, “I would do it myself, but I have a hard time walking that far.” The cashier said “Nobody is here to help you with that.” I told the women if she waited just a moment, I would run across the street and get her one. A few minutes later, I returned back to women, waiting in front of Albertson’s with her meal. She reached in her purse for a $5.00 dollar bill, and started to hand it to me for helping her. I told her to put her money away, I was happy to assist. All I wanted in return was a smile, and for her to remember, someone did something kind for her today. She started to cry.
I didn’t assist the woman for a reward. I did it because, we all need assistance ones in while. Whether its school or everyday life. A helping hand is always nice when it comes around. Last year, my mother had open heart surgery, and she struggled with learning basic movements all over again. I remembered what she went through and how hard it was for her to walk, and if I needed help, I would hope someone would show me the same kindness. Helping those that can’t help themselves is reward in itself. April C.

    2. April,

That is a wonderful story. It actually made my teary-eyed to read it. Thank you so much for sharing. I'm sure that woman will treasure that moment, knowing that you took the time out to help her and care for her. What a wonderful story!

    3. That was a pretty awesome thing you did for that lady and probably made her day too. I wish more people would help each other more often and I hope the cashier was not mean about it but it was kind of hard to tell by reading the response.

  7. If you do a good deed, it will pay off in the future. Like a good deed, students finishing college is a very good accomplishment. It shows pride and heart to persevere. Also, I would like to thank all professors, tutors, and fellow students for helping me understand my subjects in college.

    1. It's very important we thank our Professor's & Teachers when you can. You will find many don’t show the same kind of compassion and enthusiasm towards the subjects they teach, you can call it burn out. A Teacher or Professor who can show both compassion and enthusiasm, will more likely to reach through to a student faster, than a Professor who is endless rambling on because of their knowledge on the subject. I would like to applaud Kristin and Jessica for showing your compassion and enthusiasm in the classroom, you both fill the room with positive energy of learning. April C.

  11. My pop!! He was taken to ER, ended up having his colon burst and toxic his stomach, almost died from it. When I learned he was in the hospital. I rushed over there. And I find him in ICU. Covered with tubes and strap him down preventing him from ripping the tubes out of his mouth and all... I was very much hurt to see him in this condition. I went home and informed my sister and my mom. They both came down from Orange County. My mom and my sister went in to see him, he opened his eyes and of course couldn't speak because of the tubes. He told my sister to get out of there. She was balding crying. he waved at her to go away. Then, he signed to my mom. My mom could not understand one letter from him. As soon my sister came out of the ICU, I went in. The moment my pop saw me walking in, he signs to me so fast. I had to hold my tears so fast, and pay attention to him. I looked at my mom, then smile and turn around asking the nurse to bring him a cold washcloth, his forehead feels hot. My mom just stood there feeling so stupid.

My pop rolled his eyes at my mom. After the nurse brought him cold washcloth, I took over and took care of my Pop. Pop was feeling comfortable then... we told him that we will be back. He was happy to know that he is okay. After we left, My mom and my sister and I went to have lunch. My mom realized that sign language is so important. She knows now why my Pop never stopped learning sign. In case something like this happens. He has another way of communicated. It made my Pop feel better. My mom never pushed herself to learn sign. Today, she still talked to me like I am a hearing daughter. I dont see her much anymore. I love her. and I dont feel close to her. I am very much close to both of my daughters. They both signs and speak English.

I think at least everybody should have some kind of hand gesture for any kind of emergency back up. The Sign Language is the one of the universal language we all can communicate.

May my Pop rest at peace. Always have you on my mind and etches my heart forever !!! xoxoxo

    1. Erica,

Thanks for sharing such a personal and moving story. You have a point that learning basic signing for communication could really help in a bad situation.
