Two, too, and to

Since we talked a little bit about the difference between "to" and "too" yesterday, I thought I would post this.  Here is a practice that you can try: http://www.studygs.net/vocab/too.htm

  1. I thought that the website with the hands on approach and the ability to check the answers was very helpful. It definitely made it easier to sort out the difference between the two, to, and too in the simple sentences.

  2. Two, to, and too all sound the same to me. But when I sign them, it is a whole lot different meaning. Just the two of us would go to the store and get an ice cream for dessert.
    Where are you going to?
I lost my cousin too soon. I will be forever miss her. May her rest in peace.

    1. Strange! There might have been a problem with the scoring page. I would recommend that you try again.

  4. I honestly can not stand when someone can't tell the difference between "to" and "too," would it be rude of me to correct them? Sometimes I feel I shouldn't, but again that just goes along with me having that OCD feeling when it comes to grammar.

    1. Harrieth,

You brought up a point I've been struggling with myself. I find little errors everywhere and have to hold myself back from getting the urge to correct everyone on everything. Then, every once in a while, I'll send out an e-mail without checking it and realize that I made a stupid little error as well. After that, I'm glad that no one writes back to correct me, so I think you have to decide when it's important to correct someone and when to just let it slide.

    2. I never really had problems with using two, too, and to. Like you said Jessica, it's little errors that sometimes messes up what we're trying to say. Sometimes I type or write so fast I forget to double check my draft.

    3. i get what your saying. But also like kristin once said in class. These errors are mostly likely done by a person who's english is their second language. I think its harder for them to tell wich too, to, or two is correct.

  6. This is a good website to learn spelling and grammar. The words two, to and too are pronounce the same but has different meanings. Examples: I always get two of everything; I am going to buy them; isn’t that too many?

    1. it depends on the professor, but some do. I have a professor that will minus 1 point for every grammar error. April C.

    2. Good point, April!

Gary -- Most professors don't mark you off for each individual error, like April's professor, but they do grade your overall grammar. These types of errors are distracting, and they would contribute to you receiving a lower grade. When you write, you want to put your very best foot forward; errors like this (even though they are small) do affect your presentation.

    3. Gary my class I am referring to is a Law class. The Professor made point telling us that, spelling and grammar errors are very common, but they are very embarrassing to the firm and client. The reason she marks us off for every single error is to prepare us for the real world. April C.

  8. Too many times I have seen couples fight

    To love one another despite

    Two people engaged in conversation

Too hurried the date will soon end

To call him again a lot will be at stake

Two people in love that's all there is to say

Too many eyes giggling at you and me

  10. I think until about halfway through my relationship with my ex, i finally used the right form of too. She was so happy with me, hah it was like one of the best nights ever. Long story short, its because of her that i know the difference of too and to. Those were the hardest ones for me to get right. I could never tell which one was right or not. But with the help of her, classmates, and teachers, i now know. Cyrus I
