How Writing Relates to Science

Here's what Chris had to say about how writing relates to science:

Not just good, but GREAT communication skills are extremely necessary in my profession. As a matter of fact, your life or the life of one of your loved ones may depend on it!

I work in a hospital lab, and we perform testing on patient specimens of all kinds. To do this testing, we follow specific written procedures that tell us how to analyze the specimens accurately and efficiently. If someone cannot write the procedure so it is easily understood, or read the procedure and understand its content, then erroneous data could result. This could easily cause harm to our patient.

Critical thinking is, well, critical too. Especially when we get into a critical situation, we have to be able to prioritize our work to make sure the most important tests get completed first. If you do not have critical thinking skills, you will not do well, and that relates to not getting raises or promotions in your career.

  1. Yes, that this is true about it, I do agreed with Mr. Chris. In every courses or any fields, they're all related with English (write and read).

    1. You're right. Civilization developed because people could communicate with each other and without communication humans would have only stone tools.

  4. I believe writing is connected to everything in some sort of way. You need critical thinking skills, your mind needs to be able to brainstorm, you need to be able to read, and tons more your mind needs to do. Cyrus I

  5. I do agree Science and writing connect because, like Chris said the procedures are made to be used in a specific writing style. The both subjects are the opposite of each other, which is funny but are both connected.

  6. Read, writing and excellent communication skills are very crucial in the medical field, even a prescription that a doctor gives you with specific directions on how often you take it very import. Think about that for a second. If a doctor writes you a prescription and you can’t follow basic directions on the bottle, most likely you can get sicker or possibly die. In the news at least a few times a week you’ll find this situation, someone not following the written directions on the bottle. Everything we do in life depends on reading, writing and be able to communicate. If you want take a bus from point A to point B, you need to be able to read a map or ask someone. If you want make something and you want to follow the directions, you need to be able to read the directions. If you want to drive, you must be able to read the signs and pass a written test. How about voting, it’s our civic duty and our god given right. If you can’t read, how can you determine who or what to vote for? How about something we do on a daily basis, how go shopping? If you can’t read the signs how will you know when those great sales are? April C.

  7. this reminds me when i was in 8th grade and my teacher told me. in order to be successful on anything you must know how to properly write. so it dents really surprises me if anyone says 'oooh you need writing skill because of this." you need writing skills for EVERYTHING!
